March of Dimes; March for Babies on April 29th, 2012 in NYC with Liza Huber and Sage Spoonfuls

March of Dimes March For Babies

NEW YORK  - Thousands turned out early on Sunday morning for March for Babies, an event put on by March of Dimes which raises money to support research that helps prevent premature births.

Why We Walk?
When you walk in March for Babies, you give hope to the more than half a million babies born too soon each year. The money you raise supports programs in your community that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. And it funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten our babies. We’ve been walking since 1970 and have raised an incredible $2 billion to benefit all babies.

What to Expect?
This year, more than 7 million people will join their family, friends and colleagues in 900 communities across the nation. Our volunteers and staff will encourage and support you in your efforts to raise awareness and funds. No matter if this is your first year or your 25th, you can expect the event to be fun, compelling and rewarding.

As I was walking along Madison Avenue i stumbled onto an interesting booth and took a quick peak to find out what it was about, who is the founder and to get more information. It was the "Sage Spoonfuls" - website: https://www.sagespoonfuls.com/ with a founder and CEO and a mother of 3 lovely children, a talented and creative woman by the name of Liza Huber. She is better known as the vixen actress in a long running Soap Opera "Passions" playing 'Gwen Hotchkiss and later Winthrop'. She is also the daughter of Susan Lucci who was also there to support her family and her grandchildren. Liza's inspiration are her children and one of the reasons she supports the March for the Babies is that one of her own kids was a preemie. So this is a cause that is close to home.
She has also written a successful book called " Sage Spoonfuls" , which won several awards and is simply a helpful book for mothers of babies and toddlers. With her simple yet yummy recipes which turn into healthy meals for the children, children in turn become happy. And all we want as mothers are happy and healthy babies. Having the opportunity to make these wonderful organic meals preferably at an affordable price is simply a bonus.

Here are the pictures and videos from this fabulous and delicious event. First of all i want to say that i was able to relate to this event due to my own Russian heritage and communicate with the people in my mother tongue which was great. People were having a great time and there was a mix of adults and children because both were there to create an atmosphere of fun and entertainment with their nation musical or dance numbers for everyone to enjoy. Each country also brought their national cuisine to sample and show it off. I can tell you that some lines to try the food were longer than others, maybe black caviar and crepes was an obvious attraction for most Russian people. Till this day it is quite expensive so everyone was interested in getting a sample and enjoying their evening. The good time continued at another table which had mostly sweets verses savory flavors, in the short candy and cakes in various flavors followed by some very traditional to their region drink the Birch juice which was a surprising yet delectable addition to that table. I am sure i was not the only one who experienced a level of nostalgia while sampling it. I was snapping pictures and videos away and did not have a chance to try everything rather i took in all the food aroma that was prepared at these tables and worked up my appetite to attack the chocolate candy table which was filled with delicious goodies. For adults there was a wonderful choice of sampled from wine to vodka once again from various above described regions, which offered variety for each pallet. There was a table with red and white wine and by the time i got there the hostess said that there was no more white wine and this there was no way to quench my thirst so i went back to the Birch juice - non alcoholic but stupendously appetizing and satisfying for it very smooth and cool flavor.
