The Bubbly hour was a beautiful and delicious success with many friends attending this invite only gathering to network and to have a great time and taste Champagne provided by Nicolas Feuillatte. The hosts mingled with the people in attendance and sipped champagne which was resting in ice filled buckets beautifully situated and chilled to perfection. If you wanted to see the view from the outside, you could observe the territory of ground zero.

About Barriers: Barriers takes place four months after 9/11 and deals with the Chinese/Pakistani Abbas family, and the loss of their oldest son Nabhil at the World Trade Center. The Abbas's only daughter, Sunima, comes home to announce her pending engagement to a white man. However, Sunima’s news becomes lost in a mire of household problems and she gets trapped in the family loss they never dealt with. As this multi-cultural family begins to fragment, we begin to piece together the past each one hides, and the future they all share.

Originally mounted in 2002 at HERE and then subsequently co-produced with the Asian American Theater Company in San Francisco and Los Angeles in 2003, Barriers is returning to the stage slightly reworked to look back on the ten-year anniversary of the World Trade Center tragedy.

This production is a part of HEREstay, HERE's curated rental program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical support.

New York is a town where there is something happening on every corner and one of these days i found myself in a Washington Square Park by NY University and as i quietly strolled through the shadowy parts to hide away from the scorching sun i was suddenly entertained by a wonderful sound that was coming from a distance. I followed the music and saw the street band but classical playing the most marvelous sounds, so as a New Yorker i found a bench and sat down to enjoy the city and what it has to offer.

Maqbool Fida Husain (17 September 1915 – 9 June 2011) commonly known as MF, was an eminent painter of Indian origin, although a Qatari national at the time of his death. He has been widely regarded as the "Picasso of India" and has influenced a whole generation of artists in the country.
Husain was associated with Indian modernism in the 1940s. A dashing, highly eccentric figure who dressed in impeccably tailored suits, he went barefoot and brandished an extra-long paintbrush as a slim cane. He never maintained a studio but he spread his canvases out on the floor of whatever hotel room he happened to be staying in and paying for damages when he checked out. He created four museums to showcase his work and had a collection of classic sports cars. Enormously prolific, a gifted self-promoter and hard bargainer, he claimed to have produced some 60,000 paintings, when questioned about such prolificity by Michael Peschardt of the BBC in one of the last interviews he gave on May 27th, 2011, he replied that "All this talk about inspiration and moment is nonsense. Excuse us". He amassed a fortune but maintained a bank balance of zero. He applied the formal lessons of European modernists like Cézanne and Matisse to scenes from national epics like the Mahabharata, Ramayana and to the Hindu pantheon.
His narrative paintings, executed in a modified Cubist style, can be caustic and funny as well as serious and sombre. His themes—usually treated in series—include topics as diverse as Mohandas K. Gandhi, Mother Teresa, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the British raj, and motifs of Indian urban and rural life. One of the most celebrated and internationally recognized Indian artists of the 20th century, he also received recognition as a print maker, photographer, and filmmaker.

The Story

The Impact

Sam will provide an artistic and unique perspective on gender identity and the people who inhabit our lives. In a world where children and young adults are harassed, bullied, and even murdered for who they are, the film also aims to provide encouragement to young people who are discovering who they are, where their place is, and who they want to be.
About the Director
Sal Bardo is a New York-based writer and director. His short film, Requited, recently made its world premiere as an official selection of the Seattle International Film Festival and will be screening at more festivals in the coming months.

The New York-based art and literary magazine, headed by Publisher/Editor-in-Chief Betsy Sussler, celebrated its birthday on April 15th, 2011 in NYC with a silent art auction, dinner, and program honoring artist Marina Abramovic; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation Director, Richard Armstrong; former Art in America editor, Betsy Baker, and bestselling author, Francine Prose.

The event was co-chaired by Robert Duffy, Michael Ward Stout, Mary and Sean Kelly, and BOMB Trustee Michele Gerber Klein. Guggenheim Trustee Amy Phelan was Honorary Chair. Notable attendees included BOMB Trustee Chairman, writer/curator Klaus Kertess; actress Kim Cattrall; actor/playwright Wallace Shawn; musician Michael Stipe; artists Ellsworth Kelly, Mary Heilmann, and Anh Duong; Pulitzer Prize winner, Michael Cunningham; author A.M. Holmes; writer/cartoonist Anthony Haden-Guest; MoMA Chief Curator of Media, Klaus Biesenbach; and Guggenheim Foundation President Jennifer Stockman; New Museum Director Lisa Phillips.
Since 1981, BOMB has been publishing quarterly issues that explore the creative process, unique because artists and writers edit them. Through interviews, fiction, poetry, reviews, and essays, BOMB gives a voice to artists, writers, actors, musicians, and directors, keeping vital the creative discussion.
